If you get it, let me know

If you get it, let me know what you think. After hearing Noot and the others talk about PC, I can't help but be interested in trying it out. I have just always stayed away from pc gaming because it's an arms race in terms of hardware. I don't like the idea of getting beat because I spent my money on aluminum heads for my hot rod instead of a new video card or mother board.

BTW, anyone that plays pc know how well UT runs on a laptop? I just got my new one from work today. Thinkpad T61 w/a Centrino vPro processor.

Cokkenballs - T61P

Cokkenballs - we should talk about a Laptop.  I am running UT3 on mine.  The T61P was among my top 3 laptops I was researching to purchase.  It all however depends on your memory and video card.  everything else in the T61P are up to par - but let me know those other details and I'll let you know what tweaks/programs you should try to get UT to work - if at all.

The Wooks PC

Wooks - you can create the same account as GameSpy uses a seperate system to host PC Multiplayer.  The main advantages of the PC Version are

Check out our PC Performance Thread - it will help you purchase the right equipment.

Among other things the PC Version of UT3 offers
Way more options and control
Newer patches and the Devs pay more attention to this version
A few more maps/mods
If you want to develop, convert or cook a mod for the PS3 you NEED a PC
The PC Version CAN look and play better, smoother & at a higher resolution.
It plays a little faster
There is a lot more competition on the PC
You can pay to have someone host a dedicated server for you - you can grant admin rights to different people and yourself on your 3rd party hosted server

There is more but basically for GOW the main elure of the PC is R&D for the PS3 so we can bring exclusive mods over to the PS3.  Let us know if you have other specific questions.  We'd be happy to help.  Post them in the PC Thread if you wish.

My laptop, aka "Fucking Dell!!!!"

My Laptop: Dell Latitude 620, Intel Centrino Duo T2300 @1.66Ghz, 3 Gbs RAM, 60 Gb HDD @7200rpm, this laptop is two years old

After purchasing the PCversion, mostly for the editor, I installed it and tried to fire it up. First off, it needed 9 Gbs to install. I have that, but holy crap, 9 GIGS???? So I got that over with, took me at least 30 minutes, install was very slow. Then tried to run it... kept getting the "UT3 has encountered an error and needs to close. Send error report?". This is the same error message you see sometimes with internet explorer. I immediately checked the box and the Epic site to verify, once again, that I had all the minimum requirements, and I did. So I went to the web and learned about....Patches! Downloading one took forever, mostly because the download site, my internet connection is rock solid. Installed it, then got the same error message. Went back to Google and learned..... I did not have the latest one. So.... off to download again another patch, again took forever. And again.... Couldn't run. Same message. Back to Google, to learn that my laptop uses a Calistoga Integrated Graphics chipset. I went back and forth but the short version is, it can't handle it. Wait, it gets better... My laptop video can NEVER EVER EVER be upgraded, unless I replace the entire MotherBoard. Dammit!!!!    COKKENBALLS, Hope your story has a better ending than mine did. So ...... Can I still hang with you guys, even though I have a tiny rig? Waaaaahhhhh!!!!

PS - Eventually, If I can get the funding worked out, my Schwartz will be bigger than yours!

The Demon Slick Hopes to

The Demon Slick Hopes to land this PC by the end of the weekend. Highlights include an Intel Quad Core Q6600 and 6 Gigs of  DDR2 SDRAM. Oh yeah, SIX! I plan to upgrade the monitor to a 22" for an addidtional $70. Total package price will be around 870.00 and will include the 3in1 scanner/printer and the 22" flat screen monitor. Also, kb/m.

I feel like that is mucho bang for my bucks. I'm buying it anyways, but opinions are welcome. The Video Card is upgradable. I still hate Dell and thier closed System Architecture, but I just can't find a sweeter deal.

The Demon Slick gets a new rig, final

Ok, this is how it ended up. I got the Dell i530-110B with the Intel Quad Core Q6600 and 6 Gigs of  DDR2 SDRAM. SIX! I upgraded the monitor to a 22" for an addidtional $70. Ppackage price was 870.00 and included the Canon PIXMA MP210 3in1 scanner/printer and the 22"  Dell FE 228WFP Flat screen monitor. Also, a regular usb kb/m. This next part I blame on my Wife.... after all, she let me go get it by myself. There was this great sale so I bought a BFG Tech Ge Force 9800 GTX OC Graphics card, with 512MB GDDR3.  So sweet..... I hope, it's all still in the boxes. Of course, then I had to upgrade my power supply from the stock 400W to a Thermaltake TR2 RX 550W. I probably still paid too much for the Vid card and pwr supply, but I was caught up in the moment. Plus, I'm a gamer, I'm getting a new rig. I DESERVE a treat. (I actually read someone else saying that when I was researching video cards in another forum) Total w/1yr protection plan, 1140. And that's it! The deal is, I'm not allowed to open the boxes until I clean the Spare Room. This is the room nobody uses, where we have been "storing" things for years (shoving all the crap). This will be a daunting task, for sure. Then there is the installation, loading restarting loading, etc, So maybe finally sometime this week I can actually finally see what the editor looks like.

Waaaahhhhh!!!! (the SUPER happy one)
