Decription: No need to sell your soul to China to join us in playing the latest custom maps in a custom extension of the Warfare gametype...

 

 

Many adjustments and additions have been made to ONS 2.0 since the last party....

  • spidermine gun, a weapon that shoots spidermines
  • lightning gun, like the sniper but shoots lightning
  • bio grenade launcher, a weapon that shoots bio goo filled granades that can stick to enemy players and vehicles. Alt clicking detonates the grenades.
    Manta that players can ride on the wings or on top of.
  • teleport from the node itself as well as the node teleporters
  • dodge jump
  • vehicle camera control
  • more versatile raptor and scorpion

no old maps

I strongly agree with Sanch3z that only new maps should be in there. Otherwise we'll end up with another oversized map pack. It helps people to give some repetition on new maps so they get a chance to feel comfortable. Otherwise it is overwhelming. Just look how much play the 3 new maps in the map pack are getting.

I vote for cutting out the following maps because they were in the last map party:

Iridi
ArchCliffs
Xcavated
TooDark
Dawn
RoyalFlush
DeathDome
MasterBath
Maelstrom

Yes they are all fun maps but I think we should just give the new maps more play.

I am cool with the removal of the maps pacer mentioned except Iridi and Maelstrom:

Iridi: is going to be BigDogs MSUC phase 3 entry. He is making maps for us, the custom map community and he doesnt even really play UT3. I'd like to get him as much playtesting/feedback as possible since we all know it isnt going to come from the rest of the WAR community.

Maelstrom: So's just made this map final, lets really give it some play time. Plus I think we should show support for other teams projects. I didnt get a chance to play it much at last party.

 

We arent doing a map pack this time around. I am just posting links to each map at Epic.

 

I removed the link above to Full Worm Garden since I will have a new version ready tomorrow with: Pacers orb spawners at primes, another node link setup.

 

Pacer, would you be able to maybe take a look at the hellbender twin beam charge indicator? From what I gather from it is they changed something with the HUD. The SPMA now has a charge indicator and I believe most of the code for that is in UTDeployable Vehicle, if that helps.

WooHoo! If you only added an orb spawner at the middle (non-countdown) node I'd be satisfied.

My thoughts

I think for the map party and only having links may not be that good, specially for lazy ass people who don't like downloading maps as it is. Sending them to 20 or how many ever links might turn some people off. If anything we could post the individual links as well as split the maps into two packs. This way if someone has say like 4 maps in the pack, they won't have to redownload all of them and we can keep the lazy asses happy. Plus it is a map pack party Lol.

About removing the maps, i think this event is going to be for 2days and if we make the list smaller people are gonna start to feel like they are playing the maps over and over.

There's still more than twice as many war maps than Epic released with Titan. People will not be playing for 48 hours straight. Two map packs means two downloads instead of just one. People looking for the map pack are looking for one download but it will turn many of them off if it is too big. You want people to preload the maps so you don't get half the people still downloading when the map is finished. We should have had the map pack available by now.

Hellbender beam power display: It looks like we can not display the weapon power bar anymore because Epic got rid of the vehicle health diagram (the outline of the vehicle shape) for most vehicles to make room for the Titan display.

the vehicle health diagram is still there? I was just playing today and noticed the DarkWalker has the beam indicator also. Its odd though: I tried subclassing the stock bender which has the vehicle health diagram, I made no changes other than calling it hellbenderX, and the vehicle health diagram would not show up... I dont get it. I do now get why the weapon ammo "charge indictor" widget doesnt work with the ONSHellbender and it is because of the titan display.... there must be a way around it though...

 

I dont know what to say about the maps.... maybe just stick with the new ones on Saturday and tell people to post what they want added on Sunday. I think its fine to have just links to the separate maps since I'm one of the ones who doesnt like downloading the huge mappacks that usually are corrupt the first download and take a couple tries.

I may be totally off on this idea but with whatever is effecting the charge indicator couldnt we just subclass whatever the offending script is with a modded script from src 1.3? Titan doesnt work with ONS 2 anyways so we might as well change it back. I think it is in the UTPlayerReplicationInfo and UTHeroPRI that is messing it up.

 

or maybe subclassing UTVehicle from the 1.3 scripts would work too. This was added to src 1.4 which I'm assuming is the work around for the titan crap:

I just tried messing with some of that but got nothing still. The best example I can find to match the Hellbender situation is the Levi and it only overrides ChargeBarPosX and ChargeBarPosY. I also tested whether our bender is calling the DrawBarGraph method. It is being called so why it is not showing up in the HUD is a complete mystery to me. I suspect there's some override in native code that I don't have access to.

You cannot subclass old code because the old code is not running anymore.

I also discovered that there's a ton of pretty useless code in the ONS hellbender... what is all this crap about locking the vehicle? If you don't know I'm getting rid of it.

That's probably our best hint that Epic has introduced a major hack to hide health diagrams for certain vehicles to make room for the Titan bar.

When I cut out all the vehicle locking crap there's not much left in our Bender subclass that we can't tweak in a stock bender at runtime but it only takes one critical component to screw us over... and I suspect that component may be the Gun class for Seat[1].

(The ps3 version at least) of that vehicle is derived from captain snarfs hellbender deluxe, pressing X allowed you to lock it before you exit, stopping bots from stealing it even if those bots or players are of the same team, locking it before you exited it meant only you could enter it again,

I would never have had the patience to figure that shit out. Thanks Sanch3z for fishing up that solution and thanks Xyx for figuring out how to work around Epic's fail.

So the plan is to have each

So the plan is to have each individual map as a separate link along with a map pack split up into two downloads. This way for people who dont have any of the maps will have the chance to grab them all at once using our two map packs . And for others who may have some but not the rest of the maps can download them individually through the links that we provide.

Harmerty is making the pack now and when it is ready I will update this post with it and hopefully Sanch3z will add it to the epic post shortly to follow. Thanks to everyone who helped make this possible and we will see you Saturday!!!!!
