Matrix Moves:
In a nutshell, matrix moves give you more time and control in the air. Once you jump into the air, gravity effects you less than it normally does and you have 3 jump boosts plus 3 air dodges. Jump boosts are just like double jumping... press the jump button again to boost your height... except you get 3 jump boosts (like a quad-jump) and you can boost any time you're in the air rather than having to do it near the peak of your jump.
Air dodges thrust you in various directions while you're in the air with even more speed than a jump boost. You can dodge to the left, right, up, or down... note that non-lateral dodging is up and down, not forward and back. How you perform each air dodge depends on whether you use the a keyboard or controller. With a keyboard, you simply double-tap one of directional keys... like normal dodging on the PC. With the controller however, you have so called "smart dodging" which is Epic's poor excuse for dodging on consoles. Press jump while the left analog stick is all the way forward to dodge up, all the way back to dodge down, and so on. I find it very tricky to air dodge on a controller but I normally use a keyboard anyway so my coordination in that regard is sub-par.
Finally, you can hover in mid-air for up to 7 seconds. To begin hovering, press the feign death button (now finally you have a good use for that). To end hovering, press the feign death button again. Once you end hovering, you will resume traveling in whatever direction and speed you had when you started. Keep in mind that you can only hover once per jump and you can only do it for 7 seconds at the most.
HINT #1: To move quickly through the air, get on your hoverboard, gather up speed, jump, get off your hoverboard while you are still in mid-air, and perform jump boosts to gain height when needed. You will carry your forward speed as long as you do normal jump boosts and you can steer your flight left and right. Be careful not to do a forward air dodge though, you'll gain more height than a jump boost but it will slow you down.
HINT #2: When in heavy combat, save your last air dodge for the trip down. Otherwise you'll be left in a slow decent back to the ground... an easy target.
HINT #3: Use mid-air hovering when you need to do some sharp shooting from a lofty vantage point.
